England XIX-th century. Young Victor Van Dort is supposed to marry Victoria Everglot. The whole marriage was arranged by their parents. The young couple could not meet until the day of wedding rehearsal. It turned out to be young Van Dort's defeat as he was so nervous that he was not able to say any oath words. The local priest Galswells decided to cancel the whole ceremony until the young man learns the words of the oath. Depressed Victor goes to the forest in order to practice the oath alone. To feel more the role prescribed to him he placed the wedding ring on a twig which appeared to be a finger of another young lady murdered ages ago. That is the beginning of a funny, charming and a bit horrible story..

Burton comes back in a great style. Once again he creates a vision of absurd but partially realistic world. Some of the motives are humorous, macabre but also disgusting. The director of "Edward Scissorhands" joined in a smart way all those opposite features into one unity. One can find here Burton's characteristic elements: numerous dark mysteries, brutal stories, human drama. In his latest work Tim presented the caricature of XIX-th century England, its customs and culture.

One of the best things about the film is definitely Danny Elfman's music and animation. Great drawing, fantastic animation. The protagonists are vivid, even thsoe who are already dead. It is probably also the contribution of Johnny Depp, Helen Bohnam Carter and Emily Watson's voices. The actors also allowed to use their appearances to create the characters.
